Jamie Oliver Tackles Burglar After He Tries To Break Into His Home
TV chef Jamie Oliver has been described as a hero after apprehending an ‘aggressive’ burglar who attempted to break into his home.
The 43-year-old healthy school meals campaigner chased the burglar down the street after catching him breaking in to his £8.9million, eight-bedroom mansion. He then managed to pin him down while waiting for police to arrive.
It is thought the burglar would have gone on to enter other homes on the North London street, where residents reportedly include the likes of supermodel Kate Moss and actor Jude Law.
Neighbours are reportedly very grateful for Jamie’s act of bravery, praising the Naked Chef for his ‘community spirited’ attitude.
One of Jamie’s relieved neighbours told The Mirror:
It was just a brave, selfless thing to do.
Despite the clearly very hairy situation, Jamie was laughing and joking with the coppers saying they’d done a great job to arrive so quickly after the 999 call.
Everyone is really thankful for his quick thinking and courage.
At the time of the attempted burglary – which took place at around 7pm on September 4 – Jamie had been at home with his wife Jools and their five children, 16-year-old Poppy, 15-year-old Daisy, nine-year-old Petal, seven-year-old Buddy and 22-month-old River Rocket.
The burglar had reportedly previously attempted to enter other residences on the Highgate street – including one thought to be the home of Kate Moss. It is unknown whether or not she had been home at the time of the incident.
Another source told The Mirror:
It was understandably very scary as Jamie was with the whole family in his house at the time.
It was an instinctive reaction – he was just trying to do the right thing.
The source continued:
Jamie was alerted to something wrong when he heard a massive commotion coming from his neighbour’s house.
He was set to investigate but before he knew it, he was face to face with the burglar himself as he tried to smash his way into his house as well.
Jamie went absolutely mad and sprinted after the man down the street before catching up with him and pinning him down to the floor.
He was then joined by his driver and a handful of neighbours who helped him hold down the burglar until police arrived to arrest him
As well as protecting his family, he is very community spirited and cares just as much for the welfare of his neighbours as well. That’s probably why he leapt into action.
A spokesperson for Scotland Yard said:
At 7.13pm on Tuesday, 4th of September, police were called to reports of an aggressive male attempting to gain entry to residential addresses in N6.
The male was apprehended by members of the public and was subsequently detained by police.
He was taken to a North London police station where he remains at this time. Officers from Central North Command Unit are investigating.
Looks like this crook picked the wrong house to burgle, severely underestimating the power that healthy, nutritious meals can have on a man’s sprinting ability. Well done Jamie!
